Lifelong Friends Maintain 64-Year Monthly Pub Tradition

The friends' journey began in 1953 at Prince Henry's School in Evesham. Upon graduating in 1960, they convened for a farewell pint, marking the inception of a tradition that would span 64 years. Determined to maintain their bond, they agreed to meet on the first Tuesday of each month at The Old Swanne Inn, a local pub that became the cornerstone of their enduring friendship.

Throughout the years, the group has remained steadfast in their commitment, with some members traveling considerable distances to attend the gatherings. Michael Stephens, one of the original members, expressed that the meetings are a time for reminiscence and connection, stating, "We talk about all sorts of stuff, reminiscence. I never thought for one minute we'd still be here doing it all these years later." David Day, who rejoined the group 22 years ago after living in London, noted the ease with which they reconnected, saying, "When I returned after a long gap of 40 years, it was just like we've been drinking the night before."

In an era dominated by digital communication, the friends emphasize the irreplaceable value of in-person interaction. Brian Wells, who travels from Cheltenham for the monthly meet-ups, highlighted the importance of these gatherings, remarking, "It's just nice to see the familiar faces and chew the bit."
