Sabrina Carpenter popped up out of nowhere with hits like "Espresso" and "Please Please Please." However, the pint-sized pop star has been a Triple Threat since she could walk — singing, dancing, and acting on Girl Meets World. Today, we'll examine her childhood, career, and relationships. We'll try to keep it Short n' Sweet, but there is that whole Sabrina x Joshua Basset x Olivia Rodrigo love triangle and Barry Keoghan controversy to address!

A Star Is Born

Sabrina Annlynn Carpenter was born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, on May 11th, 1999. Showbiz runs in the family as her mother, Elizabeth, used to be a dancer before opening a chiropractor practice, while her father, David, used to play in a garage band.

Sabrina's aunt is actress Nancy Cartwright, who voices Bart Simpson in The Simpsons. Raised in nearby East Greenville, Sabrina and her sisters Sarah, Shannon, and half-sister Cayla (David's daughter from a previous relationship) were homeschooled.

Sabrina began dancing almost as soon as she could walk. Before long, she attended dance class six days a week. She grew up listening to Dolly Parton, Carole King, Patsy Cline, and Stevie Nicks, and began singing lessons aged six. The pop star later told Rolling Stone magazine that singing was her "first love."

As a youngster, she adored Christina Aguilera. She told Paper magazine — "I was 11 years old, and you couldn't get her name out of my mouth. She's very special to me. Those songs raised me."

More Influences

When she was young, Sabrina grew up listening to Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Etta James. She's stated that Xtina's 2002 song "Beautiful" helped her "showcase and develop [her] own voice."

More Influences

She also named Rihanna's influence, Taylor Swift, and Lorde for their songwriting influence, Beyoncé's genre-bending, and R&B as her favorite genre. In a Rolling Stone interview, Carpenter said Madonna, Britney Spears, and Mariah Carey were some other artists who introduced her to pop music.

Sabrina soon began posting videos of herself (and her ferret, Ginger) singing Christina Aguilera, Taylor Swift, and Adele songs on YouTube. But the young singer didn't just love pop — she also rocked Guns N' Roses and Ozzy Osbourne covers!

While his dreams of being a musician didn't come to fruition, David lived vicariously through his daughter, building Sabrina a purple recording studio in the basement. In 2009, Sabrina finished third on The Next Miley Cyrus Project. Her parents nicknamed her "Bumblebee" to remind her to stay humble.
